Cristiano wins the players' vote

Yesterday, FifPro, a worldwide representative organisation for professional football players, with more than 57,500 members, named Cristiano Ronaldo as The Best Player in the World.

Said Ronaldo of this particular version of The Best Player in the World title:

"To be recognised by my fellow players is amazing...I would like to thank my team-mates and coaches and everyone involved at United and the national team, as well as my family and friends for their support."

Cristiano awaits now the verdicts of the Ballon d'Or (voted by journalists) and FIFA (voted by managers and captains) to confirm his status as The Best Player in the World.

  1. I will be very surprised if he does not get the other two.

  2. He really does deserve them all - and the right to call himself "The Best Player in the World". No one really should deny him that for 2008. Since such awards are really based on performances in the front half of the European calendar the only way to look at it is that he was best in the fall of 2007 and onward; and as a result we could say that the 2009 Best Player in the World title is in fact being decided as we speak - which explains all of the talk about Messi and Torres these days.
